Northern Cyprus holidays often include the flight, especially if you choose a Northern Cyprus holiday package. Independent travelers need to find a flight for themselves.

Northern Cyprus cannot accept direct flights, so all flights must land in Turkey first. Passengers on Turkish airline flights will need to change flights at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The current flight is then an internal flight. It is worth studying the airline schedule for Turkish airlines flights for connection times, particularly for the outward journey. Some days there is only an hour wait for a connecting flight, but other days it can be up to four hours. Turkish Airlines flies from Manchester, Birmingham and London Stansted and Gatwick. AnadaluJet, a low-cost carrier owned by Turkish Airlines, also flies from London Stansted but lands at Istanbul’s other airport on the Asian side, Sabiha Gokgen Airport. Passengers do not leave the plane but, after adequate waiting, the flight is considered an internal flight and you are allowed to proceed to North Cyprus.

Pegasus flies daily from London Stansted and weekly from Manchester in the summer months. These flights land at a specific airport in Turkey, wait for a while, and then take off again for Ercan. Passengers traveling to Northern Cyprus do not leave the plane.

A new airline is planned for 2011 to replace the failed Turkish airline from Northern Cyprus. Atlas Jet can still operate flights too

The airport in Northern Cyprus is known as Ercan and Lefkosa and is located to the east of Lefkosa (Nicosia).

With the ease of crossing the border from the south, many visitors now use Larnaca airport. Monarch flights fly to Larnaca from various UK airports, Manchester, Birmingham, Luton and London Gatwick airports.

It usually takes just under an hour to reach the Metehan crossing point into Northern Cyprus. It is best to hire a taxi from North Cyprus to pick you up from Larnaca airport.

Easyjet flies to Paphos airport, but the transfer time to a crossing point in Nicosia is a couple of hours and taxi fare is high.
