Safety – Your dog’s safety is paramount and it’s important to put some finishing touches on your home before picking up your puppy. The first thing to buy is a dog bed or cage. Your puppy will not be familiar with your home and it can be a bit overwhelming for a few days while your puppy adjusts. A dog bed can help your puppy settle in and can act as a safe place that will soon be recognized as yours. You cannot be with your pet 24 hours a day and a crate can ensure that your puppy is safe and gives you peace of mind. A gate is also a good idea if you want to put up a barrier against places that may not be suitable for your dog to roam.

Toys and Treats – Your puppy may be too young to play with toys when you first bring him home, but as your puppy grows, toys can help keep him busy when you can’t be there. Some treats can promote tooth and gum health and are a great source of pleasure for your pup.

Collar and Leash – This is one of the first things you should invest in. Although you may not be able to get your pup outside for the first few weeks, you don’t want to be caught off guard when the time comes. Not only will a collar keep your dog safe on walks, but if your dog gets lost it is always helpful to have their phone number on the collar.
