I don’t know about you, but I have a really hard time trying to figure out what to write in a poem! What if it was for my mom? Well, forget it… I couldn’t think of anything and the whole day was filmed.

This got me thinking: What would be a great idea for a poem? Then it hits me… like a stone to the head! Write what you know about… Wow! I couldn’t believe it… It couldn’t be that simple, right?

Oh yes it could…and it is! You see, not only do you have your past memories, I know, your mom doesn’t know all of them… but she does know a lot of them… You share those memories with each other and that’s what makes this technique so great!

1. Do you remember your first boyfriend/girlfriend? I’ll tell you what… your mom sure does! It was a huge milestone in the world of parenting! I know it was for me (as a parent now). Don’t you think you can come up with a Great Poem about that day? How did you feel when you found out you were going to tell mom? Were you shaking…sweating…did you have trouble breathing? Put all those feelings into your poem. Your mom will love it!

2. Now, I don’t know about you, but I had my share of vehicle problems! From my first ticket… to being stuck in the backseat! Oh! And one thing is for sure, my mom never forgot any of those moments… I’m sure yours doesn’t either. Express how you felt when you got caught or how terrified you were when you got caught! Or how you felt when you had to tell him about that ticket… All those thoughts and feelings can make a wonderful poem!

3. How about your first broken heart? That was a terrible day for me… and I’m sure it was for you too! Remember how your mom was there for you? Did she hug you, did she cry with you… maybe she just gave you that LOOK (that said OKAY)… Tell her you remember that moment and how much it really meant to you!

4. How proud was she of you? All parents love to praise their sons or daughters for their achievements. Remember when mom was there at your first swim meet? Or that BMX race… That first soccer game… Remember how excited she was when you WON? Maybe you didn’t win…who cares…she was there for YOU and she will always remember that day! She was so proud of you just for finishing… Competing… Participating! Think about those feelings you had and how, when she held you… life was wonderful!

5. Your first child! Oh… this is always a problem… remembering how involved your mom was. Now, she may not have even been there with you, but did that stop her from calling every day to check on you…how was her new grandson/granddaughter doing? Put into words how she felt about herself… how she felt about herself as a new parent… and remember… she had exactly those feelings when you were born!

You’ll see? Everything is WITHIN YOU! All you have to do is look, feel and remember. Both you and your mom share these memories and she will love nothing more than a very special poem, written by YOU, on Mother’s Day! Now, go ahead and let her know how much she means to YOU. Let yourself go and the words will flow like you never thought possible.

I know you can do it!
