First we have to really establish where this term comes from, what it really means. It’s really simple and logical, the term is used to identify a branch of the new generation of phones.

What makes the difference between a smartphone and any other mobile phone are some special useful features like:

  • A high performance processor;
  • A fast and reliable Internet connection;
  • A friendly and easy to use interface;
  • Plenty of storage space for personal data;
  • Reduced dimensions and weight.

These are the features that make a phone appear “smart.”

Mobile phone companies spend a lot of time and money researching new technologies to renew and improve the world of smartphones every second.

Thinking about the expectations and the highly requested mission of the smartphone in today’s world, businesses are exactly where they need to be.

What is the purpose of the smartphone?

The smartphone has quickly become the most popular device in the world and almost all its owners simply could not live without one. This happened because the idea behind the smartphone was to help and make a man’s life easier. It is designed to offer its users simple and reliable Internet access wherever they go with just a flick of a finger.

This means that for whatever help the owner needs, they can always rely on their smartphone. The devices are also equipped with very useful applications that are also meant to make life easier for man or to entertain.

And of course, in the age of global socialization, every smartphone has at least access to all social communities, if not even some specialized apps to ease the way.

All these features made the smartphone what it is today, helping mankind to live a little easier life.

If you want to buy a new smartphone and you don’t know which one is best for you, let me give you some advice.

Before you start looking, you should think about yourself and the way of life you are living. It may sound irrelevant, but let me give some examples:

  1. If you work in construction, you might want to look into a compact, shock-resistant Gorilla Glass touchscreen (for touchscreen fans);
  2. If you work in an office, you may need some special apps that could help you with your work or favorite activities;
  3. If you are a sporty person, you should try to find a light and practical smartphone with features that help you with your sports and you could take a fall or two outdoors.

Once you’ve established what kind of person you are and what kind of help you might need from a smartphone, you can start a search and consider the following factors in the following order:

  • Look for a processor with a frequency higher than 800 MHz, the higher the frequency, the faster the processing;
  • Find a good internet connection. Standards like 2G, 3G, 4G represent speed. I recommend at least a 3G connectivity;
  • Wi-Fi represents the ability to connect to any Wi-Fi access point or wireless router to establish a powerful Internet connection;
  • Plenty of storage space, I recommend more than 6 GB if you are going to have photos or HD movies on the device;
  • A good screen, more than 4 inches diagonal, LED, AMOLED or Retina are the ones I recommend. Try to choose only capacitive touchscreens because resistive ones require you to “push” the screen and don’t work as well;
  • Also think about the operating system (OS) because it represents the interface that you will use all the time on that specific smartphone. Each different operating system comes with its own set of features, so be sure to check out what it offers. Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android are the best in my opinion, but there are also Samsung or Blackberry and others that can really keep up with the competition;
  • Last but not least is the design. A smartphone these days is simply an artistic masterpiece! With minimalistic, artful or eccentric designs, smartphones are always in the spotlight, so this one is simply up to you because only you know best what style suits you best.

If you consider at least some of my advice, I think you could be quite satisfied with your choice.
