It’s not often that you find free maps, but a very smart guy nicknamed Shonky Logic decided to create maps that Garmin hadn’t considered for Australia. Australia is famous the world over for its vast tracks and ancient landscape, something many Australians find they need to be a part of by hopping on a 4×4, biking, walking or caravanning and visiting. However, the Australian outback is not a place you want to get lost in, something many visitors and tourists find that they do not pay attention to ensure they have enough essentials such as water, food and communication. Just like in any other remote place, it’s always good to let people know your itinerary so that if they don’t hear from you at a specific time, it’s much easier to find you on the thousands of square miles of land than anyone else. visits

GPS has exploded in the recreational market, it is the fastest growing technology worldwide. You find it on your watch, footwear, mobile phone (Cell), Emergency Beacon (EPIRB), planes, trains and cars. Every day without realizing it you will have come across GPS and luckily many people have realized the benefits of these little devices in circumstances where there are often no tracks or roads, perhaps a river, a strange rock or tree, and maybe even a Kangaroo!

Garmin is probably the largest manufacturer of recreational GPS in the world, but they are still developing maps for the world. However, the Australians could not wait any longer and thus the development of Shonky Maps was born. The term or name of the maps is not exact because there is nothing false about it. The map is based on Geoscience Australia (GA) Natmap raster maps, and GA is the Australian Federal Mapping Agency. The original maps are designed to work with products like OziExplorer, TrackRanger and many more similar products. However, Natmaps would not work on Garmin GPS until now.

If you are looking for free maps of Australia for your Garmin, containing many details including highways, main roads, rivers, tracks and much more, then you should purchase a copy of this map.
