This is a practical lesson that you can use to teach children about growing in God. The lesson uses a vegetable seed packet or the picture of a seed packet. The Bible verse is 2 Peter 3:18 and the theme is: “God wants you to do the right thing even when you don’t understand.”

Lesson:

Show the package, open it, and pour some of the seeds into your hand for the children to see. Discuss how small they are now, but how big they will get when planted and cared for properly. Most seed packets have a picture of the adult plant, so you can show it and describe the steps a seed goes through to become a plant, or you may want children to tell you the steps.

When you plant a seed, the seed dies but in the process it sends out roots that always grow and spread. (See John 12:24.) The roots grow first and never stop growing. Then when the roots are established, the plant will begin to grow (always grow) and leaves will begin to sprout. The plant grows towards the light as prolonged darkness will cause it to die and positions its leaves so that each one receives light.

When the plant establishes itself, it begins to produce the vegetable. (It can also be helpful to bring a couple of ripe vegetables and compare them to the seeds.) During the process, suckers often begin to grow (small branches that remove food from the fruit) and must be pruned or pruned. cut off. When ripe, vegetables should be picked to encourage higher production.

When you believe in the Lord Jesus as your Savior, you need to establish solid “roots” to remain faithful to God. It establishes them by reading, studying, and memorizing the Bible and spending time talking to God every day. The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:18 that God wants you to grow in the Lord Jesus. Once you start to put down solid roots, you will begin to bear fruit for God!

Sometimes when you see a gardener prune a tree or plant, it almost looks like he’s trying to kill it. It seems that they are cutting too much and the plant will not survive. If the plant could think, it would probably think the same. Even if you don’t understand it, the best thing for the plant is that they have cut so much of it. In fact, it will grow stronger and produce more fruit due to pruning.

Sometimes God allows difficult things to come into your life. When you do, it may mean that you are working to “prune” it. If God allows it to happen, you can trust that it will eventually work out for your good. If you have believed in Jesus as your Savior from sin, God wants you to do the right thing even when you don’t understand it.
