No matter what interest you have in the fund or what business you’re in, there’s always a rivalry between the best at anything. Pepsi versus Coke. Walmart vs Target. cors vs. Budweiser. You get the point, when it comes to being the best, no matter who you are, there is always a rival and there is always someone ready to take the argument from the “others”.

The video game industry is no different than any other, so when it comes to being a video game player today, there are two options to choose your alliance, Microsoft or Sony. More specifically, you have to choose between their golden sons, the PlayStation and Xbox empires. For those of you who can’t make the decision for yourself, read the following to understand what both have to offer.

  • Xbox launched over a year ago without any competitor as Sony had yet to launch its new PlayStation 3, delaying it over a year to become competitive. PlayStation 3 appears to have done so with a Cell Broadband Engine to power its newest entry into the video game arms race. Whether you know which is better without playing both is based solely on whether you’re a computer genius or not. If not, which most of us are not, understand that they are both based on having multiple processors running at the same time.
  • Unsurprisingly, both manufacturers offer different packages for shoppers at outlets across the country. Each is generally offered in a “basic” package and a “premium” package with names that vary at different outlets. Basically, what you have to choose from is a basic system with no hard drive, but everything else. One system that gives you 20GB of hard drive and a different system that gives you 60GB of hard drive. Xbox 360 is generally around $100 cheaper in all categories right now, but it’s also been around for another year.
  • Where PlayStation 3 is separating itself from Xbox 360 right now is in game discs or capacity with Blu-Ray technology. Blu-Ray technology allows for more space on each disc, which means developers and designers can go deeper and be more sophisticated with the game on every game. This is exclusive to PlayStation 3 at the moment, but you can bet all systems will have it for years to come.
  • Both video game giants offer an online gaming service so gamers can compete against each other across the globe. Xbox Live is currently the better known of the two services, but it costs money in the form of a monthly subscription to be able to use it. PlayStation 3 is set to have a massive online community alongside the launch of the system itself, with the difference to Xbox being that the PS3 online service will be offered free of charge.
