Sometimes we come across unnecessary events in our house, such as faulty electrical wiring. It damages our light bulbs, appliances and even the wiring itself which often causes a fire.

Although we are not specialized in electrical wiring, any of us can be an electrician. We can do such a basic installation in our house just to follow a simple but very cautious instruction for our safety.

Here are some basic steps on how to wire a house:

Step 1
Make sure you have the necessary power tools. Bring the following to be used:

A. Pliers
B. Side cutters
C. Circuit tester
D. Electrical tape and tape measures

F. Screwdrivers, both flat blade and Phillips head
G. Wires, cables and tape measures
H. Safety glasses

Note: There are many lists of equipment used in electrical wiring. Never use low class tools, it may lead you to electrical accident.

Step 2
Draw your electrical plan. Efficiently analyze and design what you have drawn and organize it step by step. This will make your work faster.

Step 3
Set up your wiring rail inside the house. Decide the area to place your switches, fixtures and plugs. Place the switches near the door for easy use. Make sure it doesn’t block the other materials in your home. Keep it simple.

Step 4
Install wires, cables, switches and outlets. Connect them and place them precisely on your wall or ceiling. Use the necessary tools to do it.

Note: Make sure your power supply is off when wiring to avoid electrical hazards.

Connect the cables correctly. The same color must connect with each other. Tape the wires correctly. Avoid exposure of open wires.

Step 6
Evaluate the voltage requirements of your appliances and equipment so you can choose the correct rating for your circuit breakers.

Test existing connections. Check the cables if they still work. You can use this to save money, time and energy. If not, replace or establish a new wiring system.

Study the existing ordinances and laws in your respective state before installing the cables. These keep everything to be safe and avoid dangers in your home. Know the basic Electrical Code.

Protect yourself properly. Wear protective gloves and goggles when working on your electrical wiring. This will protect you from possible incidents such as electric shock.

Set your circuit breakers. Please note that each wiring system you connected has its own fuse and circuit breakers. It has important functions to protect your home from possible incidents.

If you’ve already done the steps and connections, make sure you’ve passed the security standards. This is very important to prevent fire or explosion when testing electrical wiring. Be sure to test all electrical connections, switches, fuse, and outlet. After checking the possibilities of wrong work you might have done, test your wiring to see if it really works.
