Although we are well aware of the dangers that plastic has for the environment (as it is not biodegradable), the advantages of using plastic materials cannot be ignored. It should be noted at the outset that one of these advantages is the ease with which PVC and other plastic materials can be recycled and thus reused indefinitely.

Undoubtedly, perhaps the most important factor when making an investment is the value for money. More and more manufacturers are choosing to offer budget products made of plastic instead of metal or other more expensive materials, thus offering a greater variety of products for different people.

If we talk about technical particularities and use, HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is perhaps the most widely used plastic material due to its high resistance values and low cost. It is one of the safest materials that can be used for food storage, being approved by the main health federations for use in direct contact with nutrients. High Density Polyethylene has also been shown to have great chemical resistance, which is why it is frequently used in the manufacture of trays and industrial tanks. Other uses include pipe fittings, wear plates, hinges, and cutting boards.

Although HDPE has numerous applications, the most important continues to be its use in the manufacture of bottles and other hollow products. In pyrotechnics, HDPE mortars are generally preferred over their steel or PVC counterparts due to their durability and the fact that they are generally safer to use.

PVC is another very popular type of plastic (it is the third most produced plastic in the world). Being mostly used in construction due to its durability and low cost, it can be found in pipes, cables, signs, furniture, etc. To make it suitable for this wide variety of uses, PVC is treated with a large number of additives such as: thermal stabilizers, UV stabilizers, lubricants, plasticizers, technological adjuvants, impact modifiers, thermal modifiers, fillers, flame retardants, biocides , blowing agents and smoke suppressants, and even pigments.

Considering the health hazards of HDPE and PVC (which can be found in Agro), at this time the manufacturing processes required to produce the two materials are very safe, and the resulting products are not only safe to use , but also recommended (unlike VCM for example).

In conclusion, although plastic is not the most environmentally friendly material, HDPE and PVC are two plastic compounds that have been shown to have many more advantages than disadvantages.
